Core content:
- Understand how organisms are organised (including the terms cell, tissue, organ, organ system and organism).
- State how new cells are produced (by mitosis or cell division).
- Understand the structure of plant cells, animal cells & bacterial cells (including the cytoplasm, cell membrane, ribosomes, nucleus, mitochondria, chloroplasts, vacuole, cell wall, circular DNA and plasmids).
- State the function of these structures.
- State the specific functions of certain specialised cells (ciliated cells, root hair cells, palisade mesophyll cells, red blood cells, nerve cells, sperm and egg cells).

There is no extended supplement for topic 2.1.

Difference between plant cells and animal cells is that plant cells are multicellular like animal plants both have nucleus but plant have nucleus with cellulose and chloroplast and cell wall but animals don’t and animals feed on other substances made by other living organisms and plants feed by photosynthesis - Fatima Imran
