Martin Lewis warns of 'frightening' new investment scam using deepfake video of him
In a video posted to Twitter on July 7, 2023, the Money Saving Expert said that the scam uses an AI-generated clip of him to appear to endorse an investment scheme by Elon Musk.
Lewis said that the scam is "frightening" and that it is the first deepfake video scam he has seen with him in it. He urged authorities to "step up" and stop internet giants from publishing such content, saying that people will lose money and "lives will be ruined."
If you see a video or social media post that claims to be from Martin Lewis, be sure to check the source carefully. The real Martin Lewis would never endorse an investment scheme, and he would never ask you to send him money.
If you think you have been scammed, you should contact your bank or credit card company immediately. You can also report the scam to the police or to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
