8th Grade Math 10.2c, Center of Dilation Outside the Image

The center of dilation can be inside or outside the preimage and the dilated image. The center of dilation can be anywhere on the coordinate plane as long as the lines that connect each pair of corresponding vertices between the preimage and dilated image intersect at the center of dilation. We connect each corresponding vertex and continue each line segment. Their point of intersection is the center of dilation. We walk-through problems involving an enlargement, then a reduction, to sketch the figures on a coordinate plane. We write a representation of a dilation algebraically. We show how we can graphically check that we have drawn the image correctly by drawing line segments from the center of dilation through the preimage and image vertices. If the vertices line up, then we did the dilation correctly.
