And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.
‭‭[Zechariah‬ ‭12‬:‭10‬]

ㅇSurely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.
ㅇBut he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
ㅇWe all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
‭‭[Isaiah‬ ‭53‬:‭4‬-‭6‬]

ㅇand said, “I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,
ㅇI will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies,
ㅇand through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”
‭‭[Genesis‬ ‭22‬:‭16‬-‭18‬]

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
‭‭[Isaiah‬ ‭7‬:‭14]

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
‭‭[Isaiah‬ ‭9‬:‭6]

ㅇThus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.
ㅇThis is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
ㅇBut after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
ㅇShe will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
‭‭[Matthew‬ ‭1‬:‭17‬-‭18‬, ‭20‬-‭21‬]

But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.
‭‭[Micah‬ ‭5‬:‭2]

ㅇIn those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.
ㅇ(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.)
ㅇAnd everyone went to their own town to register.
ㅇSo Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
ㅇHe went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.
ㅇWhile they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,
ㅇand she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
‭‭[Luke‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭7‬]

Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
‭‭[Zechariah‬ ‭9‬:‭9]

ㅇThey brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on.
ㅇA very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
ㅇThe crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
‭‭[Matthew‬ ‭21‬:‭7‬-‭9‬]

ㅇHe said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out?
ㅇHow much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”
ㅇThen he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other.
ㅇBut the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus.
‭‭[Matthew‬ ‭12‬:‭11‬-‭14‬]

ㅇNevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan—
ㅇThe people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.
‭‭[Isaiah‬ ‭9‬:‭1‬-‭2‬]

ㅇWhen Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee.
ㅇLeaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali—
ㅇto fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah:
ㅇ“Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles—
‭‭[Matthew‬ ‭4‬:‭12‬-‭15‬]

ㅇWhen Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
ㅇBut he continued, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.
I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins.”
ㅇSo Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me.”
‭‭[John‬ ‭8‬:‭12‬, ‭23‬-‭24‬, ‭28‬]

ㅇ(Jesus said) I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things?
ㅇNo one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.
ㅇJust as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,
ㅇthat everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”
ㅇFor God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
‭‭[John‬ ‭3‬:‭12‬-‭16‬]

ㅇI told them, “If you think it best, give me my pay; but if not, keep it.” So they paid me thirty pieces of silver.
ㅇAnd the Lord said to me, “Throw it to the potter”—the handsome price at which they valued me! So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the potter at the house of the Lord.”
‭‭[Zechariah‬ ‭11‬:‭12‬-‭13‬]

ㅇWhen Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders.
ㅇ“I have sinned, ” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.” “What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.”
ㅇSo Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.
ㅇThe chief priests picked up the coins and said, “It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.”
ㅇSo they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners.
‭‭[Matthew‬ ‭27‬:‭3‬-‭7‬]

He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
‭‭[Isaiah‬ ‭53‬:‭7‬]

ㅇMeanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” “You have said so, ” Jesus replied.
ㅇWhen he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer.
ㅇThen Pilate asked him, “Don’t you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?”
ㅇBut Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge—to the great amazement of the governor.
‭‭[Matthew‬ ‭27‬:‭11‬-‭14‬]

Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
‭‭[Isaiah‬ ‭53‬:‭12‬]

ㅇWhen they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left.
ㅇJesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
‭‭[Luke‬ ‭23‬:‭33‬-‭34‬]

They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst.
‭‭[Psalms‬ ‭69‬:‭21‬]

ㅇLater, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.”
ㅇA jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips.
ㅇWhen he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
‭‭[John‬ ‭19‬:‭28‬-‭30‬]

He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.
‭‭[Isaiah‬ ‭53‬:‭9‬]

ㅇNow there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man,
ㅇwho had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea, and he himself was waiting for the kingdom of God.
ㅇGoing to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body.
ㅇThen he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid.
ㅇIt was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was about to begin.
‭‭[Luke‬ ‭23‬:‭50‬-‭54]

Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
‭‭[Jonah‬ ‭1‬:‭17‬]

He answered, “A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.
For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
‭‭[Matthew‬ ‭12‬:‭39‬-‭40‬]

ㅇJesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”
ㅇThey replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?”
ㅇBut the temple he had spoken of was his body.
‭‭[John‬ ‭2‬:‭19‬-‭21‬]

because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay.
‭‭[Psalms‬ ‭16‬:‭10‬]

ㅇOn the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.
ㅇThey found the stone rolled away from the tomb,
ㅇbut when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
ㅇWhile they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.
ㅇIn their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?
ㅇHe is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:
ㅇ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”
‭‭[Luke‬ ‭24‬:‭1‬-‭7‬]

ㅇ“Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day.
ㅇBut he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne.
ㅇSeeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay.
ㅇGod has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it.
ㅇFor David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, “ ‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand
ㅇuntil I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.” ’
ㅇ“Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”
ㅇWhen the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
ㅇPeter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
ㅇThe promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
ㅇWith many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”
‭‭[Acts‬ ‭2‬:‭29‬-‭32‬, ‭34‬-‭40‬]

(Jesus said) You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me,
‭‭[John‬ ‭5‬:‭39‬]
