St. Mark was a Byzantine monk and theologian who lived shortly before the fall of Constantinople to the Turks. He is most known for his efforts at the Council of Florence-Ferrara, a council called to discuss union between the Eastern Orthodox Churches and The Roman Church. At the council, he refused to sign union with the Roman Church as he believed they taught unbiblical doctrines, not found in Church history. He focused mainly on: purgatory, essence-energies, and fillioque.
