New year, same story, as Taiwan's military has reported the year's first incursion of Chinese warplanes into the country's air defense identification zone, with some fighters coming within 25 kilometers of Taiwan's territorial airspace. There have been long lines at Taiwan's main airport as ground staff of the country's second-largest airline going on strike over annual bonuses. And the start of 2023 means a number of new regulations in Taiwan ranging from civil rights, to economics and the environment. Also:
- Unearthing Indigenous history in the southern city of Tainan.
- A temple in central Taiwan hands out "seed money" for New Year prosperity.
- A senior police officer from Tainan has been released on bail following a dramatic arrest for extortion.
