While in Wetzlar Germany for Leica's Celebration Of Photography 2022, I had the chance to test the new Leica M6 2022 with the Summilux 35 1.4 Steel Rim. The camera paired with this lens could be the go to for film lovers who want the perfect rangefinder.

I think this is a great idea on Leica's part. M6s on ebay are easily in the $3K+ range, and there is no guarantee it won't need a CLA, repairs, or electronics might die and need replacing. Spending an extra $2K up front for brand new camera under warrant could save you a lot of time and hassle on repairs down the road. Also, the camera will easily last you the rest of your life. I'm shooting with an M2 from 1958 that works perfectly. Not really that expensive if you think about it that way.

I had the MP but then, to my surprise, I discovered that there were no more labs to develop color film in my country! I returned it but I miss having it. Never had a more beautiful camera in my hands!

I know the new M6 is based on MP internals but hopefully this release will help the repairability of the original M6 in the long term as well.

Very cool. Even though I can't see analogue photography ever regaining its heyday of the middle/late 20th century, it definitely seems to be a burgeoning niche right now. The re-release of the M6 is cool, but there are also a lot of phenomenal 35mm cameras in the used market these days that can be found in superb condition, and fine examples seem to be creeping up in value—Nikon F2s, Canon F1s, the gorgeous, Porsche-designed Contax RTS with the beautiful Carl Zeiss T* coated lenses (now that's a camera you should check out sometime). I wonder if this new M6 re-release may further lift the value of other quality analogue cameras along with it.

I have the M6 classic in silver. This one makes me drool for all the upgrades that they 've added to the original. I was looking for the black paint MP but I prefer the matte finish with brass. I think my original classic has only zinc top and bottom.
