Welcome to Real Ridez Channel! You are watching 1964 Pontiac Tempest GTO Restoration | Pontiac GTO Walk Around

In this episode, we'll look at a completed Pontiac Tempest GTO restoration, resurrected from rust into an eye-catching automotive marvel. To start things off, Master Body Technician, Rene, will walk us through how he brought back to life this forgotten piece of history. Then we'll jump in the passenger's seat and hear from the car's owner, Philip, who will share his story on what it was like to go through four years of restoration, as well as what this car means to him and his family.

I warn Pontiac purist: this restore is not all stock. It features a Chevrolet LS2 engine, Magnaflow exhaust, 2006 Pontiac GTO transmission, upgraded coil-overs, disc breaks, and other performance enhancements. Simply, this is one mean machine that earns its title as "the Franken Goat".

A brief history of the 1964 Pontiac Tempest LeMans GTO:
In 1964 John DeLorean wanted to build a car that would speak to the America's youth. General Motors had strict rules that enormous engines couldn't go into compact cars. To circumvent GM's policies, DeLorean secretly worked on a performance package for the Pontiac Tempest LeMans which ultimately released to the public as the GTO, or 'Gran Turismo Omologato' option. Expecting to sell less than 5,000 units, the Pontiac Tempest LeMans GTO broke all the rules, captivated American buyers, and sold a whopping 35,000 units in their first year of production. What Pontiac didn't know then is that DeLorean's GTO option started the American Muscle Car movement that continues to thrive today.

No way is the GTO the first muscle car. Chevy, Ford, and MOPAR were building cars that could blow the doors off a GTO long before 1964.
