Sultanate of Oman GIS Database

Показать описание
A way to present GIS data that has been appreciated by our partners/clients. It can give some ideas if you are also dealing with GIS.
Indeed despite the number of layers to be presented, we were able to keep stakeholders focused and got positive feedback. The dynamic way to present heavy and extended data at country level (here the beautiful country of the sultanate of Oman) allowed to avoid presenting classic 2D maps which sometimes could lead to lose public’s attention. We decided not to include the attribute tables in the video itself but to show it once the clip was watched so that interest was exacerbated. The following layers were presented:
• Administrative boundaries with regions, Wilayats, main cities, villages
• Transportation with Roads (main, secondary and tertiary), Airports (Main and secondary), Ports (main and secondary)
• Digital elevation model at country level
• Rainfall recording stations
• Wadis gauge stations
• Wadis at two different levels of definition: Non Detailed and semi detailed
• Existing Dams
• An extract of 3D data embedded in our GIS database
Despite we had additional data to be shown we have limited the demonstration to these layers as it was the main concern of our public and we had a limited time. However we believe that with more layers the results would have been probably positive as well. We are developing the same database for all GCC countries and probably will keep this way of presenting.
Do not hesitate to let us know your suggestions or comments so that we might go one step further in the way of presenting our GIS production.
