This was originally published a few months ago. I'm sharing it again today, in honor of Phil Lesh and in hopes that more people might hear JD's story. ❤

I loved the Phil Zone. I was fortunate enough to see him perform over 300 times from 1971-95. I’ll miss him forever.

So sad that we all have to get old and worn out. Music that brings us pleasure lives on forever.

I was very lucky to have met Phil two times, first time in the late 1970s in Boston, I was getting in a elevator when someone said please hold the door, it was Phil, we had a good chat about this and that, he got off on his floor and said thanks, the next time was in a Hotel bar, I asked for a Heineken beer and someone good choice, it was Phil, and he remembered me from before, and he got the next round, I will never forget that, he was a good person, we will all miss you Phil, cheers.✌

Phil is just as big of an influence to me as a bass player as Entwistle, Squire, Clarke and the other legends. Such an integral part of the Dead’s sound and a unique player.

“If, as some savants of consciousness suggest, we are actually agreeing to create, from moment to moment, everything we perceive as real, then it stands to reason that we're also responsible for keeping it going in some harmonious manner.”
Phil Lesh form his autobiography ‘Searching for the Sound’ 🌹

Saw this video at the time, and was fantastic then. More poignant this time. Phil was one of the most incredible and important musicians of all time.

Such a wonderful human, he did so much for organ donation and for the most part is not in on the conversation. RIP Phil and Thanks.

I never got into the Dead but always admired Phil as a bassist and I didn’t know he passed. 😢 Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻

Thank you Otis! My recurring dream for years is that Sting, Stuart and Andy are playing on my front lawn out here in Reno.
