Ex Machina - Tearing Up the Dance Floor Extended

An in-depth look into the existential problems of creating an AI. Unlike other takes, this one considers the humanity of the AI and questions ours if we keep it locked in a cage. Are we all truly made equal? What are our goals if we are not human? How intelligent and unpredictable does something have to be before we consider it alive? Does wielding great power truly make us gods?

These questions are nice and all, but this scene was by far my favourite. Taken from the extended scene in the movie extras.

There are so many nuances to what they're doing. This is all very sophisticated. Oscar, in addition to dancing, he still needs to incorporate drunkenness and intensity into his moves. While Sonoya needs, while she seems human enough, to make her moves more 'clean' and a little less expressive than his. That's great acting.

Okay I've watched this several times and being a leading authority on 'ExMachina' I almost lost my mind when the scene continued longer than in the original cut. I read the one comment about how he was glad they cut this because it took away from the original 'creepy/sexual' to just being silly. For a moment I agreed and then watched it again. I find Caleb is still completely questioning his sanity just like how the audience was like 'wtf'. It works beautifully. By him being probably drunk it just makes sense how he would have plopped in there danced and then fell. Caleb's shot is still effective because you just feel that he's losing it or thinking the other characters have lost it.
