Beasts of the Mesozoic 1:18 Scale Tyrannosaurus rex Review!! Standard Version

Well that’s it. My last 1:18 rex review is done. I’ve done 3 of these. I’m actually happy it’s over 😂. Much as I love these amazing figures they aren’t fun to review. But anyways back to the figure. It’s big beautiful and amazing!! Love that natural color scheme. It’s an experience that needs to be seen in person. You’re not prepared for the size of one of these rex. A fantastic addition to any #dinosaur collection. There’s nothing like them out there.

Mine arrived the other day and I was bit disappointed. It's a phenomenal _looking_ figure and the paintwork is top notch, but its construction felt a bit inconsistent. Some joints on mine are incredibly tight, while others are incredibly loose. For example one of the 'walking' feet will just fall off at the slightest touch, while the closed toe foot requires excessive force on the same ankle joint. Despite all the leg configurations every pose that works seems relatively static since you can't really rotate the legs too far forward or back without the hips looking like they've awkwardly dislocated. It's got all these articulations on it, but you can't really get the thing into any dynamic poses... I don't know, maybe it's just the overall concept that doesn't work for me. I think in the future I'll be sticking with the standard non-posable figures.

Good to see Huge chonky daddy Hank on your channel.

I have to wonder (unless it’s been said already) if other tyrannosaurids will get the grey paintable treatment.

6:55 😳

For those that really want to display a Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus figure together but can't afford the 1/18 scale figures; get the 1/18 sub-adult Triceratops and the 1/35 Tyrannosaurus rex, they look really good together. Buying both will still hit your wallet hard, but not as hard as getting the 1/18 T. rex and adult Triceratops figures.

I did the same thing with mine in regards to experimenting with poses and having it fall over, which unfortunately resulted in a small scratch on the lower jaw. Out of curiosity, do you happen to know which colour/brand of paint would be most appropriate to fix this up?

I want to get the grey version to paint it myself. I did, however, get the Yutyrannus pre-ordered and cannot wait for it! Yutyrannus (besides T-Rex) is my favorite Tyrannosaurid

I haven’t gotten into Beasts of the Mesozoic yet. I’ve seen a lot of reviews on these but something about them just holds me back. I like the scientific accuracy (as far as we know) because it’s such a breath of fresh air compared to the Jurassic Park style dino’s we usually see, but the color schemes often don’t make much sense to me (I know these are based on real animals, but there isn’t much logic applied to which colors suit which dinosaur better) and the articulation seems too restricted on these, with the exception of the raptor series, which do seem very dynamic and which I’m most inclined to purchase. Like this T-rex, I just don’t see the point with the extremely limited articulation for that price. I would rather get two Nanmu T-Rex statues and they would be equally gorgeous. Guess apart from the raptors, this brand is just not for me.

Would love if all of the BOTM figures got 1/35 scale variants, they're just cheaper and fit with other accurate dinosaur figures instead of Mattel toys (which I stopped collecting because I realized they kinda suck).

I really love the figure but because of its weight it's impossible to get in a good pose and have it balance properly. They need to re-tool the figure and fix the gap on the hip when you articulate the thigh, they need to either make the neck multi segmented or put the sleeve more towards the bottom so you can articulate the neck without forcing it, it would be the perfect rex figure but all these things hold it back.

In creative beast reviews in one episode he says that he heated the T rex up just for a minute to give it better articulation so maybe that’s what you are supposed to do to get more articulation

Will you bring reviewing the Rebor Deinosuchus? That figure is easily Rebor’s best so far

Articulation looks disappointing. I bought almost all figures in this line during the Kickstarter, since I really like articulation of the the raptors, but now I am thinking I may have buyers remorse since the figures seem more like statues . David Silvia doesn't really demonstrate articulation other than a few awkward photoss, which I guess should be an indiciation of the limited articulation. I went all in since there are no real well articulated dinosaur lines, but I may buy larger species if they are going to be so limited. The figure has a lot of articulation cuts that are basically useless due to the llimites range. The haw articulation is very disappointing. I think Creative Beasts struggles with articulation, so it is going to be a case of sculpt over articulation, which sucks. There are so many statutes of dinos that are good, so limited articulation figures are poingless. I am hoping the smaller species have better articulation, though, I don't expect Gorgosaurus, albertosaurus, nor daspletosaurus to be any better than the T-rex in terms of articulation. Might just to stick to custom made dinosaur figures from creators like artic, as the articulation is way better and scientific accurate dinosaurs will come eventually. More pricey? Yes, but I rather have a few $500 figures tha satisfy me than a bunch of more affordable figures that disappoint me. I am wondering how I could modify this rex to make it better. I saw someone in instagram improve the jaw articulation. Not sure what exactly they did, but it opens further doesn't affect how it looks closed. The fact that others can improve the articulation shows that David didn't put the most effort in that area, but again, I believe he is sculpt over articulation.
