I have the M3G and the MC2G, love and use both. I mostly use the M3G depending on where I go. I also have the cammenga 27 as a backup in my backpack.

As a boy scout, we had Silva compasses.
As an Army Ranger we were issued the Cammenga Lensatic compasses with tritium vials.
I agree with you Ray, today my favorite is the Suunto MC-2, it is an excellent choice!!
The magnifying glass is not very powerful but it can start an ember - depending on the tender source.
And the mirror is handy for signaling and medical purposes, i.e. checking ones face, etc.
