Could 2D Pokemon Games make a Comeback?

Pokemon in 3D has been a thing for a good while though, yet the desire for the return to 2D sprites has also been stronger than ever. Could this art style ever return, and what could be the implications of that happening?

I really do miss 2D era of Pokémon. Don’t get me wrong the 3-D era is great too, but a lot of us grew up with 2D Pokémon. Also a lot of things look great in 2D

You could actually have a gigantic 2D game with every single pokemon with an in game national dex with how much the Switch carts can hold. You could easily make custom moving sprites and everything and it would be epic. A game does not need to be 3D to be a hit even in 2024. Just my opinion.

They could LITTERLY make a GBC game. They shut down Pokemon Prism, a rom hack that was gaining popularity just because it was so successful and very fun. If you are gonna crap on peoples fun and dreams, at least make a similar game and bring it out.

2D Pokemon was something else man. It brought life and character to each Pokemon, which is something that the 3D games still need to learn in their own ways.

Make an octopath traveler style 2DHD game. Its unreal engine 5 so it should be easier to make, and the mechanics for capturing and battling are used by the hunters from the games

honestly, they'd have to make new assets (easier to spot reused sprites than models), which probably holds gamefreak off it.

Pokemon Center actually sells 2d sprites as merchandise. They call them "Pixel Pins" and can be found in the pins category on their website.

Remakes with improved ui and multiple gimmicks. Take some inspiration from atlus smt games and final fantasy jrpgs. Create bigger maps, cross regional and better animated sprites and features. A pokemon game like that would be on the level of GTA. Not really but please make it already 😂.
