Review: 2023 Acura MDX Type S - Best of Both Worlds?

I spend a week with the 2022 Acura MDX Type S to see if Acura has been successful with blending the performance expected from Type S with the luxury that is expected from a performance luxury SUV these days. Overall, they mostly succeed, with top-notch luxury features and solid acceleration and handling, relatively speaking. But some Type S fans may be let down by the slightly softer setup of the MDX Type S compared to the TLX Type S or other past Type S models. As long as your performance expectations aren't too high, the MDX Type S should be a great solution to those looking for a fun daily driver that can still seat 7 comfortably while also being reasonably-priced. This thing is missing two things. The hybrid motors and the DCT from the last gen MDX Hybrid. Doing this would of made 0-60 time much faster when paired with the 3.0 turbo and get us better mpg. My 2018 Mdx Hybrid gets 24mpg combined when I drive it hard and when I baby it I get 28+mpg

I put on my RDX 2010 breaks from porsche cayene 6piston on the front and 4 to the back and can’t say that they are redundant. Why Acura always puts insufficient breaks on it’s vehicles? Type-s seems to be the 1-st one that got the improvement. But is that enough for such a big vehicle?!

Another thing to note, is this has a tough motor with forged internals, and also a strengthened transmission. Tuner ready!

Thanks Matt, you are probably the only one who points out that the 3.0T engine's turbo lag is really obvious, that lag pushes me to EV for my next car. At the end of the day, the key value of MDX is a 3-row family SUV, nothing else, we don't have many choices, and MDX is still one of the best.

I know this is still a front wheel drive based platform but ah-awd is a good AWD system ... anyway much better than modern crappy crossovers from Lexus, inifiniti and even some entry level germans

For a family daily driver I would skip the unnecessary complexity of the turbo and stick with the tried and true NA V6. Plenty of power for what this vehicle is.

Please give some clarity. The title says this Review is of the 2023 edition, but when he says that in the video (at the beginning), a banner comes up at the bottom saying this is the 2022! Hello, I am reaching out to get the communities advice. I am shopping around for a family suv and narrowed down my options to the following vehicles: Palisade and MDX. I really wanted to love the new pilot but felt the interior was lacking conpared to the palisade. My Budget is 60k and for the most part was set on the palisade because for 52 k you can get a solid caligraphy trim which seems like a value HOWEVER last night I came across a mechanics take on the palisade and it really just turned me off because all the reviewers laud the palisade but fail to talk about the underneath of the car where compromises had to be made to give us that nicd interior. Im torn on which vehicle to get and what gives somewhat comfort is knowing hyundai has really long warranty but at the same time its not worth it if your car is a headache. So can someone give some honest takes here and help me decide.

Biggest gripe on the MDX is its small fuel tank. 18.5 gallons. When you average 16 mpg that doesn’t Eve. Give you 300 miles between fill ups. I really wanted a Type S until I learned that. Either going with the Aspec with way better mpg or something else.

I have a 2022 MDX Advance, Non Type S. Acura Slapped us in the face because for some Odd reason did NOT include the Auto Dampening System in the US versions of the MDX buit did include it in the Canadian version? It definetely enhances the Ride (drove RDXs that do have it !!). I feel cheated by that.
