"mother's gonna make all your nightmarss come true
mother's gonna put all her fears in to you
mother's gonna keep you right here, under her wing she won't let you fly but, she might let you sing"

this is NOT a love letter to a mother. this is the accounting of the dysfunction in Pink's life and upbringing that, brought him to his descent into madness and breakdown. THAT is the basis/undercurrent of the story that The Wall tells.

You may not have a mother or a father, but you have a family. A bigger family than most of us, even those of us who may still have a parent alive. I know you feel like family to me because I watch your reactions so much.

Hi polo, my name is L J Howie and I’m a portrait artist from Scotland and have watched a lot of your reaction videos of pink Floyd and dire straights and such like .
I couldn’t help hear you say when listening to Mother that you hadn’t had that experience to feel the same as us guys that had the privilege of having a mother rise us, however I’m blown away with your beautiful attitude and that you didn’t go down the wrong path .
You come across very likeable and shows people that just because you never experienced the love from a mother or father that nobody can use that as an excuse to act that they can’t give love or have a child or treat a partner good just because they didn’t experience it, because you are a very good example that you can and you didn’t have any grudges or be bitter .
I applaud you mate 👏.
Lindsay j Howie .

Pink Floyd IS the greatest band of all time. It's not debatable.

My friend, this may not be what you think. Reread the lyrics and listen again. It’s not a love letter but a very dark note of an overbearing mother that contributed to his state or “wall”. This, in my opinion, makes this song so much more brilliant.

Pink Floyd is hands down the best band of all time. I've been listening to these songs for almost 40 years and still love them every time.

With Pink Floyd nothing is ever rushed. Every note is struck perfectly. They are masters at leaving just the right space between each note.

As a Mom, that hurt my heart for you. I wish I could give you a big hug and let you know, that we love you! We are your family now! Thank you for sharing a little of your story and sharing music with us. For us it’s like introducing your favorite song to your friend, and we get to experience that together. ✌️😌

I'm a huge Floyd fan. Met this album at age 14....in 1984. Used to get high and put it on after school at buddy's house.
We..US 4 made a pact....we would only try Acid/ LSD if we got ahold of a vhs of the movie....then we found out that a local theater was playing it at 9 and midnight one weekend.
Went to both showings ...tripping.
My mother asked me next
How was it?
Me...A trip.
Her...what was it about?
Me..a Rockstar nervous breakdown.
The next year in English class I did a class presentation on the poem/ song...the thin ice.
This album IS my early teen years. Can never put it on without happy memories of my youth.

This song is about a Mother who just won’t let her grown up ’baby’ go into the real world.

It’s commendable how Polo is seemingly grounded, and adjusted to his place in this world, all the while admitting an absence of a nurturing Mother. Priveleged with a Mother that saved my life many times over, it’s difficult to connect with someone who wasn’t as privileged. This life is beautiful, in the fact that I’m never for the lack of experiencing new people and perspectives. Polo’s strength lies in a place that mine is absent of, and my strengths are annealed by circumstances that Polo, or others, might not have had. And all the while, as different as we are, we’re still able to find comfortable solace in music, or many other shared commonalities. The Sun celebrates our uniqueness to each other, but the shadow, hides us from each other.
