Christmas 2006 I was in a long-term relationship with a guy who had a 7 year old son. The only thing that kid wanted for Christmas was a Wii. His dad and I searched everywhere for one, but it was an absolute holy grail item that year. The resale prices on sites like ebay were just too steep for us. About a week before Christmas my mom just happened to find one at a Walmart like some kind of miracle. She bought it immediately and we sent her the money for it.

The relationship didn't last, but we still keep in touch. He was a good kid and he's grown into a good young man. I'm happy we were able to make that happen for him because that's probably the happiest I've ever seen a kid on Christmas morning. I still have a picture of him smiling from ear to ear with his arms resting on that box.

Im happy kids are still playing with toys. Tablets are fun, but nothing beats toys.

It’s interesting to me that something like Lite Brite came out in 1967 yet I remember getting a kit as a kid in the early 2000s. Truly a generational toy

I remember most of those toys, but the challenge of finding Cabbage Patch Kids for my two daughters and a Wii for my two grandsons (brothers) stand out. My grandsons were obsessed with the Wii. I talked to the folks in the electronics section at Target. They tld me they didn't get one every week, but if they did, it would be put out for sale on Sunday morning. I started going to Target first thing on Sunday morning, and after a few weeks I got one. I just smiled when they planned and plotted acquiring their Wii. When they opened it on Christmas morning, they screamed and danced all around the room. I have never made anyone more happy.

My grandmother bought us a Nintendo Entertainment System for Christmas 1986 and it changed my life. I was so excited that I even brought in a Super Mario Bros 2 instruction book to show-and-tell at school one day.

My daughter got a Barbie in about '98...it was a bendable style that the legs broke off almost immediately...we then called her amputee Barbie, I got her an ambulance, & I was an EMT/ FF, so we played rescue. She became a RN partly due to that doll play...who says Barbie is unrealistic?

Goodness I am realizing how many lines my mom must have stood in and how lucky she was to get me most of the "must have" toys in the 80's.

That's amazing that most of the wanted today from 60s, 70s and 80s, we still played and sometimes wanted those toys in the 90s as well when I was a 90s kid.

It’s funny how some of the toys that were popular in the 60’s were some of my memorable presents in the 80’s, maybe my parents didn’t get those days when they were young and decided they would still make good presents.

The slip n slide gift makes sense for the southern hemisphere. Often see pool and outdoor summer toys under the tree every year

Hi Seth, I was born in 1960, and I think some of the best toys were
Spirograph, Lite brite, Monopoly, when I was 7 I got an easy Bake oven for my Birthday. It really did bake goodies and most of them were good tasting. I liked toys that you could use your imagination, and create your own designs. I also was a Tom Boy and loved Legos too. Lots of fond memories watching thise Toy Commercials.❤❤❤

What's crazy is I was born in '77 and I remember most of the 60s toys.
I had no clue they were actually that old.

I love the use of Squishmallows in the past tense. My daughter got a Squishmallow backpack for back to school 2024 and this Christmas - three squishmallows (a gingerbread creature, a squid, and a bigfoot) and squishmallow slippers - all from different family members. Squishmallows in the past tense? Maybe in ten years... Honestly, hopefully never. They are so squishy and adorable! I love that they are a simple, child-friendly thing with no batteries or "bells and whistles." Sure, they're collectible, but they are sweet and innocent enough. Let kids be kids with the simple old joys of the classics - a squishmallow or teddy bear; blocks, legos, k'nex, or magnatiles, coloring books or drawing paper and crayons or paints... the stuff that lets them use their imagination! Thanks for the walk down memory lane. I had no idea some of my childhood favorites from the 80's were actually introduced in the 60's (lite-bright, spirograph, mousetrap). Great video and Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!

Crazy how many generational toys from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s existed well into the 2000s and beyond.
