Winter Birding in Southern Maine

Five birding hot spots on the southern Maine coast prove how good the birding can be in winter. Seek out harlequin ducks. Enjoy black, surf, and white-winged scoters. Count the many long-tailed ducks, buffleheads, common loons, and red-breasted mergansers. Observe great cormorants and purple sandpipers. Along the way, maybe a snowy owl?

Wow, I thought everything is under the snow at this time of year. I may need to come to check out the winter coastal birds. 👍🙂

only thirteen herring gulls at nubble?! great video, very excited to see this channel take off. maine content on youtube is always so "off the beaten path", quite difficult to gain traction. it is the most interesting place in the world if you ask me!

We just used your video to scout for our bird club’s winter 2024 planned trip. Very helpful, thanks. However we could not figure out where to park for Biddeford pool. We found Vines Landing and East Point ok, but every other place had no parking signs. Any suggestions?

Good stuff Bob. Binge watching a lot of your videos. Photographer here who typically likes to photograph waterfowl with a long prime lens at water level as low as possible. Thinking of a winter trip up there. Two questions: are these spots and the other places featured in the videos the type of setup where one can get low (typically prone) and is the water always as "choppy" in winter or are there calm days where you can photograph these waterfowl?
