It's a shame YouTube has done it's best to crush a 1080p original video. It really doesn't like anything than bright, well lit scenes. :(

Thanks Mike. You explain everything so calmly and clearly and got a lot of useful information into this video.

Once again thanks Mike, great practical use of positioning due to road surface conditions and other road users.

Another very helpful and informative video. I like the idea of concentrating on one aspect of IPSGA. Did I miss Information? Please keep them coming as I find them very useful.

Excellent video Mike👍. The car pulling out drives home the ‘time to react’ part of Advanced riding 😯
Nice to see positioning for Safety and Stability first in your video, sometimes advanced videos push on the positioning for view aspect a little too much I think.
Looking forward to your next vid 👍🎥🏍💨

There's that silky but gravelly voice again 😂 Nice thinking.

It's very obvious that the rider knows these roads very well, each and every band even adverse cambers etc. and I wonder if we were riding them would we be travelling as fast as he is. I think or rather hope not. We are not police officers rushing to the scene of an incident where we are perhaps needed but we are civilians riding an unknown road and hopefully not in any particular hurry.... or we shouldn't be. So I would be reducing the mph some 5 or so and enjoying the road and the scenery more and get to wherever I am going in due course. Arriving a few minutes later.

Another very useful video thanks Mike!
In most of the national speed areas it sounded as though you were pretty much holding the one gear (4th I would guess?), is that because you were reluctant to use your brakes due to the slippery road conditions and could do it all with acceleration senses by holding the one gear, or would you have ridden the same way even if conditions on the road had been nice and dry?

Great video, Mike . Found it very informative, do you ever link the bends by crossing the centre line .

Hi Mike, I am a new member of SAM. Please can you tell me what camera you use and where it is mounted? Johnny

You say at times "tucking well into the left hand of the road but if the right hand bend is a long one and basically a long curve as opposed to it being a bend or corner is there any need to place oneself that much closer to the potential dangers of the nearside grass verge and all the problems that might linger there, just to gain so little benefit in terms of forward vision. It's like moving over, close to the middle white lines on a left hand bend, being well over to the right and finding that the curve is actually a corner type bend [ say 90 deg] where the moving of some 2 ft to the right [ offside ] would only benefit vision by increasing forward vision by merely that same 2 ft.. A positioning that to my mind is questionable in the first place when in fact their is little or no advantage by such a movement.

when your doing these courses, how long does it take for the penny to drop, i am on my third mod and all i see is rush rush rush, push push push.

You made comment about using the sump line [ position 2 ]and that may give greater grip than positions 1 or 3 being less worn and perhaps what I call, can be more aggressive than the remaining parts of the road surface.. Then you consistently moved either side of that position to extend the forward view of left and right hand curves or bends and in doing so, as this is a country road, [ resurfaced every 110 years or so but patched up temporarily], being poorly maintained there are places where the gravel or aggregate has become worn or lost and there is only tar left. This can be identified by having a shinny surface In wet conditions and that tar is or can be very slippery much more so than the safer middle or sump line and by placing oneself on bends on such slippery surfaces, ones lacking grip are we doing ourselves a favour particularly if we are maintaining or trying to maintain a faster speed, one that might be up to the designated speed limit.

Position on left bend would be right of middle. Greater view around the bend and setup for next etc.
