#1 being tackling is spot on. My first year at a legit rugby school I couldn’t crack the first XV even though I was very fast, had great feet, and was a sniper off the tee. I was just too much of a liability defensively. My next year I just focused on tackling drills and changed my attitude that I was not just going to become passable at tackling, I was going to love it, even though I was a smaller player. Really brought my love for the game up to another level.

I'd be starting on the wing for the Bristol Bears if I'd have had this amazing advice earlier on in my career 😢 Great video buddy.

Well Presented, and really great tips, Uggy - as an ex player and lover of the game, these really are good tips! Love the balance, tackling, and supporting kids - we need our youth coming through!

Tackling is definitely the thing I need to work the most on, as you said the turnover is more likely in a tackle that pushes back, and its such a good feeling for the team when a dominant tackle is made

I watched Charlie Gamble from under 11's and under 13's age grade.
He was about as big as his teams prop, but also as fast as his wingers were.
His dad was very involved with his development, and filmed his games and pretty much gave him 1 on 1 coaching outside of his actual coach.

Charlie was built from the ground up into what he is today and I think for most rugby players it's all environmental. The Ioane brothers, the Savea brothers, the Barretts, the Fainga's, the Schoups etc.

You still have to have the talent, brawn, fitness and drive for it though

I have a problem, I perform very well at practice; however, when it's match day, I can't seem to perform at the level that I usually perform at practice. I realized that I normally overthink stuff when it's gameday, I always want to prove a point to the coach and my fellow teammates, with this info, I'll definitely improve.

Somehow this video came up on my youtube randomly like you were just reading my mind. Im 24 years old next year and i needed these advices to improve more on my rugby craft. I took a gap year this year but now im keen to get back into the game and hopefully make a name for myself before my nuts get saggy. I’ll be training hard in the gym and on the fields to prep but Thank you from NZ🏉🇳🇿🇹🇴

Great video brother and many wise words indeed. 👍
You said you could spend more time talking about the psychology of the sport and I think that would make an interesting video. I'd also be interested to hear your thoughts on the RFU's 'Core Values'. (I think they are what sets rugby apart from other sports and will serve players well out in the world as well as on the pitch.)

Please, if you're a beginner start with low chop tackling. It's far safer and super effective. The tackling technic shown on this video is the best, but for non-beginers.

Hey, love this video .
It will help a lot . My brother is 15 years old and he just got back into rugby . Since I lift a bit myself, he asked me to help him out .

I had no clue how to assist untill now .

Love the content brother. Keep em coming! Nailed it with the tackling technique. Especially when you said "you gotta have that ticker that hunger to wanting to tackle" 💯

The last point is definitely most prominent for the more technical positions like hooker or kicker. Thx for the video.

Also a point I would like to add is that rugby is as much a physical as it is a mental game, cuz if you get in the head of you oppsing team you truly screw them over. People can say they dont get bothered but I have personally screwed with an entire teams head cuz they pissed me off and we scored more point in those 15 minutes than the other 45. So either block out their comments or be the one to screw in the mental game.

With tackling Id say my tip is try different styles. I was a really good attacking fullback. Id score multiple tries a game. But I couldnt tackle for crap so I was always in lower levels. Everyone would try to teach me. Theyd teach the hit in the lower chest lift leg and drive backwards. That does not work fo a fullback. Once I learnt to tackle by wrapping up the legs I was significantly better but by the I was mid 20s and just playing for fun.
