Is COVID-19 a Pandemic? | March 2020 Update

SARS-CoV-2 is a new kind of coronavirus that appeared suddenly in late 2019. The disease it causes, called COVID-19, is now showing signs that it's able to spread outside of its place of origin. This raises some questions... like, do we have a pandemic on our hands? What’s the difference between a pandemic and an epidemic? SciShow News has some facts to help you understand a complex and rapidly changing situation.

I find it stupid that YouTube automatically demonetizes videos that mention the Coronavirus because it's a "sensitive topic". This is an informative video that's very difficult to find offensive, and if anything, demonetizing it is hurting the spread of information.

Here in Korea wearing a mask outside and on the subway is kind of estabilishing trust... If everyone has a mask on, then those whom are sick but don't know also wear a mask. It helps in that way.

I really appreciate the information here, especially that you explained a couple of things that so far haven't been explained adequately.


1) Why should you wash your hands specifically for 20-plus seconds? Because it helps dissolve protective oils surrounding virions.
2) Why shouldn't you buy a medical face mask? Because they're optimized for keeping YOU from contaminating other people, not the other way around.

I’m in Seattle and life has literally ground a halt here. Everything is cancelled and people aren’t leaving their homes except to buy toilet paper and hand sanitizer. It’s like living in some weird zombie movie.
