Launched in March 1961, the 3.8L Jaguar E-type was initially for export only, it wasn’t until the combination of looks, performance and pricing captured the British public’s imagination that the car launches domestically in July 1961. The earliest E-types had a number of defining features that were later removed including, external bonnet catches, louvered bonnet and flat floors, although this was not the only telling featured they are often the most recognisable.

Having recently completed a total nut and bolt restoration, this matching numbers E-type is truly a fantastic example of an early E-type. Retaining a number of period features including the highly desirable and limited available louvered bonnet and flat floors. This 3.8L E-type was delivered new to Jaguar Cars, New York, U.S.A and resided in California.

Finished in heritage certificate black with a black soft top, this car really does glisten and glean on a summers day. Containing suede green interior and the original gear knob, this E-type has had an original Jaguar synchro gearbox fitted but retains the highly desirable but more agricultural MOSS box with the E-type.

The E-type has not had any expense spared throughout the restoration and in the years following the restoration. Meticulously kept receipts for all work undertaken and a digital copy of the restoration as this highly desirable 3.8L E-type was restored only further enhances the desirability of this particular E-type.

This louvered bonnet, flat floor matching numbers series 1 E-type is a joy to drive and with the soft top down is the perfect companion to a summer jaunt.
