Field Marshal Montgomery pipe band under Pipe Major Richard Parkes MBE playing at the Scottish Pipe Band Championships in Levengrove Park, Dumbarton on 19 May 2012.

The band's medley comprises:

Beverley's Wedding [Michael Grey]
John Paterson's Mare [trad.]
Sparky Cherry [Ryan Canning]
MacLeod's Oran Mohr [trad.]
The Fiddler's Joy [trad.]
The Lads of Kilmarnock [trad.]
Tommy and Ronny's Double Tonic [Alan MacDonald]
The Train Journey North [Tom Anderson]

The band was placed first in the Grade One Championship Competition.

Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe band is based in Lisburn, Northern Ireland and currently holds all the UK Grade One championships as well as the All Ireland Championship - a remarkable achievement. What a shame, then, that the performance should be marred by announcements on the public address system [from about 2 minutes in]. This happened to several bands during the course of the afternoon, an unfortunate first for Dumbarton.

I really wish bands didn't hold on to a medley for two seasons in a row! I really love this medley, but I would like to see FMM (and SFU back in 2008-2009 for that matter) take on another medley. They have an amazing sound as is!

True but the amount of time to learn and play the medleys at that level is enormous, probably practising 4/5 hours a night....every night!

Darned impressive. Heading over to Glasgow for the Worlds/Piping Live in August...can't wait! Being a North American I'll be cheering for SFU and the North American bands, but these guys and gals are going to be tough to beat...again.

Absolutely amazing; I mean, how can you top it though? It's so hard when you're at that level to keep finding tunes like this that are catchy too the ear.

Pretty rugged attack and the sound and playing was a wee bit ropey into the circle, but it settles in quickly after that. Sonorous drones. Pure class overall, as always. Unless they get hit by lightning, every major is theirs to lose again this season. The challengers are rising, but these guys are still a long way out in front, in my opinion.

So I've recently learned that bands actually use two medleys each year and that they submit both on the day of competition, so I guess it is a little more fair that way.

My impression was that you have one medley per year and if you recycle it the next year, you gain an unfair advantage over other bands who are starting a different medley. That was my quibble with it.

Easy job for the judges - there's only one word they should be writing on them
