Speaker: Sir Jonathan Jones KCB QC (Hon), Former Treasury Solicitor and Permanent Secretary of the GLD

Biography: Jonathan Jones spent over 30 years as a government lawyer before standing down at the end of 2020. He held posts in the Departments for Education and Transport, HM Treasury, the Attorney General’s Office and the Home Office. From 2013 until 2020 he was Treasury Solicitor, HM Procurator General and Permanent Secretary of the Government Legal Department – the most senior legal official in government. He has worked on many aspects of public and constitutional law, primary and secondary legislation, public inquiries, national security issues, EU, international and human rights law. Latterly he was much involved in the legal aspects of the UK’s exit from the EU and the response to the covid crisis. Jonathan was made an honorary QC in 2019 and appointed a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in the 2020 New Year’s honours.

Abstract: Sir Jonathan was heavily involved in the legal aspects of the UK’s exit from the EU. In this talk he will discuss the challenges for law in a post Brexit world.

The global united kingdom is realizing that before its companies had competition in europe, now it has to face competition from world companies, which makes things more difficult, for example before fishermen had competition from other member states, now it has global competition.

The feeling I have when listening to this is the same as listening to a scientific explaining the physics proving the Earth is round and that they are flat earthers around who don’t understand the science but are convincing that the earth is flat (the likes of Mark Francois, Ian DS, Jacob RM.., )
