In this video, I discuss the various ways that governments, government agencies, and corporations can infer that you own Bitcoin.
If you talk about Bitcoin over the phone, in texts, or in email, you can assume that everything is being recorded and logged.
If you are constantly googling the price of Bitcoin, the government can probably safely assume that you own some.
Also, if you buy something online using Bitcoin, it is possible to link your personal information to the Bitcoin public address that you use to pay for the items.
Never type in your Bitcoin address on a public blockchain explorer, or you risk linking that address and your IP address.
Almost all crypto exchanges enforce a version of KYC/AML ("Know Your Customer"/"Anti-Money-Laundering") in which they are required by governments to collect your personal information, including name, address, government ID, etc.
There are ways to buy non-KYC Bitcoin, but you should only do it if it is legal to do so in your particular jurisdiction. Remember to always pay all of your taxes, too.
