As a Dutch person, I would welcome a merge with Flanders. Not an annexation though: we'd need to write a common constitution that works for all citizens of the new state.

I'm Dutch and I dont really care to be honest. If Flanders gets independance (something I see as quite likely as Belgium is more disfunctional than an arranged mariage) Id say its up to the Flemish people to decide if they want to continue on as Flanders or join the Netherlands. If they want to join us I'm 100% cool with that but same goes for if they want to stay independent.

Also fun fact we Dutch people like to joke around from time to time by calling Flanders "Zuid-Nederland" (The Sourthern Netherlands).

I'm Flemish and i would love to reunite with my Dutch sisters and brothers. Flanders + the Netherlands would create a strong economical country and having the same language is also a big plus for me! Belgium never worked and it will never work...

I'm from the Netherlands, from the southernmost province of Limburg. Culturaly we side more with Flemish peoples and the Germans from Nordrhein Westfalen. I would welcome the Flemish to the Netherlands, but for a very different reason. During the rebellion of 1830 the Dutch had to let Belgium go, with that the entire province of Limburg (except Maastricht, Roermond and Venlo, 3 Limburgian cities. <-Geert Wilders is from the former city). Limburg itself was part of Belgium for 8 years, after that period we had to split to a eastern and a western part. Western Limburg became Belgian Limburg and my Limburg became Dutch Limburg. Our peoples (and yes, we see the differences, but we acknowlegde the similarities) want to become one again. For that reason alone I welcome back Flanders.

As a dutch person I would accept vlaanderen as part of the Netherlands, but only through two different referenda as mentioned.

As a Flemish I would want to reunify with the Netherlands..Flanders and the southern part of the Netherlands have much more in common than Flanders and Walloon..

As you might suspect from looking at my name and pfp, i ofcourse support this. i've been to Flanders multiple times and the cultural differences between, lets say Brabant and Flanders, are very small. so i'd say that in that regard it wont be a problem. i'd ofcourse want both us and Flanders to have a fair referendum.

Unification with Flanders is like Northern Ireland uniting with Ireland: if you don't want to, that's OK. If you want to unify, you don't even need to formally ask

A Dutch federation with like states is a excellent idea because every province gets its own autonomy

one day the Netherlands will be reunited, the partition of belgium is inevitable.

i as a dutchman have lived in the Netherlands for 15 years and in flanders for 14 years and on world scale our cultural differences are microscopic. the mentality of the flemish is much more in line with folks in brabant and limburg as all provinces have a clear distinct mentality, subculture and dialect. the only reason the ideal of unification is minimal is because of old sore, urban myths and an astounding lack of historical knowlege on both our ends.

in recent times the flemish NVA party came with the idea of a confederacy, should the flemish exit belgium and prefer more zelf governance a dutch confederacy between the kingdom of the netherlands and flanders would not be a bad idea.

I mean, it would mean we could finally construct an actual functional highway through belgium towards France. It's still really noticable when driving from the netherlands to belgium, most people don't notice the border signs but just notice how crappy Belgian roads are.
I think unification couldn't ever work, since Flanders and most of it's citizens think (too much) money goes to Wallonia, i think their goals to break away aren't to unite with some other country that may share much of it's culture, but could eventually be seen as just another area that takes too much while giving not much in return. I think independence could work in their opinion.
Personally i think a federation of some sorts could work, with flanders being it's own constituate country. But that's just from a dutch guys perspective, i don't think they think the same way at the other side of the border.
