Nvidia’s BIG Problem - I Can’t Recommend GeForce
Nvidia has a really big problem with their RTX 40 GPUs. This issue is so bad, that I can no longer recommend ANY RTX 40 graphics cards. This includes the RTX 4070 and RTX 4090.

as someone who just bought a 7900xtx after more then 15 years of using nvidia, i was pleasantly surprised how good amd cards are. all that driver bs talk is just not true. i havent had a single issue since day 1. I'm very happy and considering how overpriced nvidia gpu's are i think i will be sticking with amd in the future

Bro's spittin facts but many people still fall for the mind share trap that nvidia created among people

I am running an RTX 3080Ti and I too have the 5 second delay when Alt. Tabing. My friend who runs AMD graphics does not have that issue.

A lot of people attribute Nvidia's drivers problems to Windows, other components or even the games they are playing because deeply rooted in their minds Radeon is the only one supposed to have bad drivers.

Nvidia cards do struggle with some newer 4k displays. As much as I like my 4090, I do think it's utterly ridiculous that you can't create custom resolutions in the conventional way (or use DSR Factors) on displays with display stream compression. Very annoying on a card that costs that much to have features actually taken away.

Have to say the 5 second thing wouldn’t bother me at all. But the rest of it would. And paying $1600+ for a card that doesn’t offer the full fat bandwidth would be annoying. Apparently not getting fixed though. Rumor is Nvidia pulled all the engineers off to work on the Data center AI cards. Have to wait for 50 series

I'm not surprised. But man, these issues may seem trivial for most people. But this will annoy me to no end. Last I heard, a lot of Nvidia talent form the Gaming Software Team has been moved to the Database & AI team. And despite asking for more funding, it got reduce. It's clear gaming is not on Nvidia's priority at this moment. So these issues might take a long while to get solved or worse, not at all.

I mentioned this on this channel before, but the 4090's most significant use case is not 4K gaming and there's no way I would have spent $1600 on this card for that. So yeah, if money means something to you, definitely buy another card for 4K gaming since the 4090 is not a great cost/value card for that. Rather, it's most significant use-case is high-end PCVR, where you're essentially pushing two 4K screens simultaneously (say, at 2880x2880 per eye), and where its raw power (not its elegance or tab switching capabilities) is what is needed to simply reach the normally accepted comfort framerates of 90fps in most games or simply playable rates in sims like MSFS with pleasing visual options turned on. Here, the 4090 is a game changer. In merely 4K flatscreen though, not so much. Sure, you'll be able reach higher fps, but does it make your favorite games go from unplayable to playable or make you say, wow, that was worth an extra $600 (or more)? If it does, then fine, but if not, then maybe another choice would have enabled you to put that money aside for a next gen card.

I can confirm alt/tab in 4k on arc a770 works fine and snappy.

Always interesting info, mate! I've got unopened boxes of the Sapphire Nitro 7900 XTX and MSI 4080 Suprim X sitting on my desk right now. I'm having a hard time deciding which to keep. I game at 1440p/120 or 144, so either card should perform very well. The 4080 was $340 more expensive. Not sure it's $340 better than the Sapphire, tho.

This. I had these exact same problems running Nvidia on a Linux system. I had switched back to Windows, but now that I’ve got a 7900 xtx on the way, you better believe I’m going back.

Oh so that's what that is, I get that massive delay as well from full screen in games ( on a 4080) with a 4k monitor

I got a LG c2. I can create custome resolutions. I don't mind waiting 5 seconds to alt4 when I rarley have to. Also it looks like hdmi cords only go up to 120htz.

Another thing is that DSC doesn't work on Linux, so that's another issue I have with DSC.

I switched from being a long time Nvidia fan to Radeon. I like the Radeon better plus cheaper for same or similar performance.

I've always wondered what caused this issue. For people that don't know, alot of games limit frames if it isn't in 'exclusive' fullscreen, Dota 2 and FF14 for instance limit frames to 59, if the game is run in either windowed or borderless windowed mode. You cannot click out of this mode and can only alt-tab out or use the windows button, when you do, it minimizes the game and there is a few seconds where it adjusts your monitors to interact outside of the game, this causes 2-3 seconds of black screen on at least one monitor, i only game at 1440p but it probably is worse in 4k.

If you are one of these people who like to game at high fps or you are someone who is doing things on your other monitor like web browser, music programs, ect, it can get quite annoying over time so you really have to choose between being locked at low frames or getting all of your frames in exclusive fullscreen.

This is kind of unacceptable on a $1600 GPU, and Nvidia should at least give us the option in the Nvidia panel which mode we want to choose, i personally wouldn't switch to AMD over this, but if it is something Nvidia can fix then they absolutely should.

The 5090 is going to come with a DP2.1, the problem is there are no 4K OLED 240hz monitors that will have DP2.1 on them.

I wouldn't be able to run my 8K display with anything other than a 4090, and besides that, my display doesn't even have Displayport 2.1 either.
