The misericorde isn’t based on the stiletto, the misericorde is based on… the misericorde. It was a real dagger used, not for combat, but to show mercy. When full-plate knights become too injured to continue fighting, the misericorde would be used to end their suffering quickly and painlessly. The thin, needle-like construction of the dagger was so it could slip easily through the eye-gaps of the armor and strike the brain directly.

I think the misericorde needs to be that large so people can recognize it from a distance. PVP is all about understanding your build and other's builds.

I really appreciate taking the context into consideration here, some people go “well this is unrealistic” and stuff but it’s from a fantasy world of course it’s unrealistic 🤨

I have to disagree here. The misericorde in the game is still more or less dagger sized. Definitely not a dedicated two hander. The only size difference between the one in Elden Ring and the real thing is it's got a longer handle, probably because all the weapons in the game can be one or two handed. Stiletto daggers or bodkins were tiny like that because they were predominently civillian weapons and it was easy to conceal them. The misericorde was a battlefield weapon which was designed to go through gaps in plate armor and puncture maille, that's why it has an edgeless reinforced purely thrusting blade. It translates to "mercy giver" as it was for delivering the final wound after you'd downed someone in armor. Sorry for the essay, my nerd side got activated 😂😂
