I think that the Oracle gems are the things that princess use to transform

I think when it comes to the King's crown, he probably held onto it while he was imprisoned. With Ephedian society being more Matriarchal, since girls have more power (Source: Team Lolirock), it's probable that only the Queen's crown has any kind of actual power, sourced from the oracle gems as you said. ^^

As for the gems themselves, I think they're just multiple of the same types of crystals that the princesses use to transform. Having so many on one crown gives whoever harnesses it ultimate power. I think it does require a girl who's been through Shanila to properly use it though - which would explain why Gramorr lost it to Iris.
