While Wano definitely had its moments, it also had its... moments... And here are my thoughts why the biggest arc in One Piece wasn't everything it could have been.

I really don't care that much for powerscaling but Oda perfectly could have put Kid and Law in their own training arcs during thier imprisonment subplots in act 2 to make the Big Mom defeat feel plausible.

You’d think the fact that Kaido adopted and looked after children would have been brought up in the Arc considering Yamato’s issues and view of him. It’s like Oda had all the stuff to make the arc great, as we see by the SBS etc and just forgot to put it in the story.

I really have to wonder what was the point in X Drake? I can get that he was undercover, but we don’t even know what happened to him after his talk with Hawkins(whom I also wonder about), or why he was “working” for Kaido in the first place. What was his mission?

I think the Yonko's first mates should have been closer to the Yonko's themselves in terms of power in order to make their defeat seem realistic. A Yonko should not be able to solo their entire crew in my opinion, as it makes said crew seem more like an accessory rather than a crucial component to their empire.

This arc was the definition of Arc Fatigue. After Kinemon and Kiku were revealed to be alive I think I just checked out

- Zoro NEVER saw Ryuma's grave like he said he would
- Jinbei NEVER revealed how he escaped Big Mom or what happened to his crew
- Kaido NEVER said why he was seeking death or why he turned to a young lively pirate to a depressed drunk
- Yamato not joining after all the signs that she would join was just a waste of time
- Carrot randomly became the new Zou leader
- What was the point of that sword hype? The kitetsu Luffy picked up early on that Zoro really wanted.
- Onis in general.
- Why was Kaido so obsessed with Wano? Did he know about Pluton?
- Toki being from the void century was literally pointless.
- Poneglyphs come from Wano. Ok? So what? Literally zero poneglyph lore beyond that
etc etc

also no party at the end that was promised when jinbei joined

i now understand why one piece is so dragged out. Oda doesnt like giving story until exposition dump. It's like pokemon where they never shut up and give nothing to the story

I think oda found himself in corner
in the end he just wanted to remove the yonkou

we actually know why kaido wants to die so badly. He said that death completes a person, probably because he saw xeceb, roger, whitebeard and oden die like legends and left a legacy, which all were in his personal top 5

his resentment towards humans was also shown in his backflash.. he was betrayed by his own country of humans and then experimented on by humans, like what else is there to know??

Oda has bitten off more than he can chew with thousands of characters and the humongous world of Onepiece. It is impressive that he did it for such a long time but, he is human after all. This is sadly Oda unable to do full justice to the monster he created, which has outgrown him. This makes me wonder, don't his editors and assistants help him out or does he not take help and intends to do everything on his own? The man has been ruining his health writing and drawing this manga. It seems he is now in a rush to finish up before his health suffers even more and take a much needed rest. Us fans of the manga/anime need to make peace with the fact that many plot points not directly linked with the end game will be sadly pushed to the wayside.

more of zoro's backstory would have been awesome

I'd like to believe Oda wanted to add all these loose ends and much much more, but his editors or he himself thought the arc was going on for too long and decided to cut things, or change them.

To me I think arguably the funniest and dumbest decision was Zunesha being in the arc to just go “oh sh** it’s Joyboy…..alright bye guys” like I understand at the least Momo was not ready to open Wano but at the LEAST should have stayed by Wano for a little longer to deal with the WG ships

Luffy trained with raileigh for two years but his observation haki got way better with a few hours with katakuri, remember haki grows in the heat of a fight

We do know why kaido wants to die, he said it's death that makes a man, no one can beat him and that makes him upset that he can't go out with a bang like Oden and Whiteboard. Im still upset we didn't get more about it though but that's how I've always interpreted it

My biggest letdown is big mom pirates disappear... they could be such an addition to the tension that felt weak.. and I really wanted to see a team up fight of kin and danjiro to enhance the samurai feel of the ark

100% love your criticisms of the arc
Even a great arc like Egghead is retroactively making wano worse assuming Kid is going to comeback, it makes his whole kaido plot line seem worthless.

10:23 it was more than just sanji not wanting to fight women, before this moment there was no moment where sanji asked for help because he has a inferiority complex due to his backstory thats why he felt like he had suvh a great debt to zeff, thats why hr left to the sea train to rescue robin alone and thats why he was ready to fie for his crew in wci. But after wci he now knows he is worth something and thats why robin was so delighted when sanji asked for her to save him
