He has hero and legendary status in St Helens. l have had the privilege to meet Mal. In spite of his amazing and stratospheric achievements in the game, he remains an extremely humble and down to earth bloke. The best Centre to ever have played the game.

What a truly decent, humble man - Mal Meninga is. He finally got the recognition (immortal status) for such an outstanding career. The only man to go on 4 x Kangaroo Tours - 2 of those as the captain. I’m glad I never had to face a man Mals size to tackle. What he achieved from the QLD competition: QLD state of Origin team as player and went onto coach, Canberra Raiders, Australian Kangaroos - is truly remarkable. Hard to replace someone like that in our games history.

I'm from and support St Helens and Big Mal will always be a legend in our town even if he only had a short spell at Saints. He was playing when I was taken to my first ever rugby league game in November 1984 when St Helens beat Barrow 59-2.

What a joke, how did Johns receive this award before Mal? Seems a bit belated.

Glad to see Mal be given this Privilege, but as a Queenslander this is great but I believe it's Norm Provans turn not just because of his age but his achievements equal all of the current immortals and not just because of the recent passing of Arthur Summons.

wow!!...finally big Mal is recognized by NRL... as a die hard fan for big Mal, i think he should have received this award long time ago...way before young andrew johns and other players who received this award after mal retirement. i wonder what it takes for NRL to recognize players, especially of an islander and Abo' - blood. is NRL racist when it comes to acknowledge high grade quality players of the islands and Abo'. .. the 14th immortal should be Johnathan Thurston. only time will tell whether NRL is for all people or not ? ( MAL - PNG islander)
