0:28 / 1:02: In my view, he rather means - when saying "ne vous déplaise" - "may you not take offense at it"/ "please forgive me for it" (because he does not want to continue ... and because their love only lasted "for the duration of a song ...").

0:03: And, "j'en ai bavé pas vous mon amour" - in my view, it's rather, "I was so keen on you, my love - but you weren't" ... "It was so exciting for me, but not for you, my love",

and he explains it, by continuing: " ... en dansant la Javanaise, nous nous aimions, pour le temps d'une chanson", meaning:

"... (but only because)
we were dancing the Javanaise, we loved each other, for the duration of a song" (explaining, thus, that it is not that tragical)

"Avant d'avoir eu vent de vous mon amour" - meaning probably he did not know her personally before - also, by saying "vous" (which is used for strangers, or on an official level) - so, just by correspondence, or shortly - so, "before I really got to know you" / "before I knew who you really were" ...

(I think this expression is even a little worse, "d'avoir eu vent de", it suggests a very bad personality, character, reputation or whatsoever, so to speak, one who is "stinking", morally, in my view, - so, it might be a strong judgment, but - who knows - it could also be meant in a more neutral way - like an "animal that is sniffing the favour" - "before I got to know you")

0:47: Also here, in my impression, it's different, and he means, "de vous à moi vous m'avez eu mon amour" - "you have had me / I have been had by you / you tricked me out, my love"

I was already very much in love with Serge Gainsbourg's music without being able to understand it, but now I'm quite frankly obsessed! This is such beautiful lyricism

At the very beginning when he says "j'avoue j'en ai bavé pas vous" it means that he has hoping desperately for this moment (in a sexual way bcs he's talking about having saliva in his mouth), not really that he's been through hell. I'm saying this bcs I understood it that way too the first time I heard it (even though I'm French). Anyway great translation 👍👍

Chanson composée en référence à Juliette Gréco.
