The Ancient City of Itanos, Crete

With consideration to time, I kept this little side experience out of the Vai Beach video I uploaded the other day, but Itanos was a side trip from the Vai trip. I love touring ancient ruins, it really impresses me how a lot of this stuff is still standing, and much of it has been preserved and excavated, offering such a magnificent glimpse into the past.

Just a few minutes up the road from Vai you'll find this ancient city.

It is so cool and sits on such a money beach destination - a lot more private than Vai, but essentially the same waters. There are two beach coves here, one we walk through to as we approach the ruins, the other is over the hill and that is where the nude portion is. I did not know this when I descended onto the beach, but I very quickly found out. Talk about Vai having Europe's largest natural palm forest, I think this little cove had Europe's largest natural forest, if you know what I'm talking about. Nudists don't like shaving.

Get your mind out of the gutter, tho, I don't have any nudity in this video lol - give these people their privacy.

Back to the ruins, tho, Itanos was a flourishing trade city back in its day and sprawled the hillside and surrounding valley. Very impressive. We tour a couple of the older buildings and the site of the ancient Basilica.

Really nice little side trip from Vai. Check it out, this is not a long one.
