Mao Zedong: Architect of Modern China

Mao Zedong (1893-1976) was a Chinese communist revolutionary who became the founding father of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in 1949. He led the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to victory in the Chinese Civil War against the Nationalists and implemented policies like the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution. These initiatives aimed to rapidly industrialize China and eliminate old customs and capitalist elements but resulted in widespread famine and social upheaval. Despite the controversies and human suffering associated with his rule, Mao is still revered by many for unifying China and laying the foundation for its modernization.
