The western liberal (in the classical sense) and democratic system forgot one enormously important thing: democracy isn't a catch phrase for "parliamentary politics", it is an ideology in its own right. We are now paying the price for the ignorant and delusional leaders who didn't see this coming, as it was no problem when the public was heterogenous and believed in freedom and liberty. Then our view of ourselves turned into The Dogma of Goodness, and we wanted to be inclusive, inviting all sorts into our previously coherent systems. This dilusion leads to a weakness (as mentioned Lloyd: other cultures see our goodness as weakness, and to them weakness invites predation), which in turn leads to total collapse of the initial system as the new info into the system drives the feedback loops, turning it into something else or chaos. I believe we still have the ability to make it into "something else". Chaos is what the Red-Green alliance wants: the reds to make a "revolution" (upending the hierarchical pyramid structure of power), the greens to realise their goal of Al-Aqsa: The Great Liberation: Chaos and destruction to the enemy, thus putting us into the very bottom of their own strictly hierarchical power structure.

The ideology we call democracy is incompatible with communism. It is also incompatible with islam. They way out is to make what is happening visible to the masses. We also need some kind of vision for how to retake power in our own jurisdictions. We can't go back, but forward, to another open system that has another kind of membrane between ourselves and the ones who want to destroy us.
