Found your video while doing research for my podcast discussion of Walter Mitty book vs film. I agree with you on all counts. The short story was a part of this humorist *thing* of making fun of the "little man" (a person who is small and unassuming etc) while the movie decided to help that everyman become a better version (happier version) of himself.

Great analysis. The story is about a guy living out his life in quiet desperation. The story ends with Walter standing in front of a firing squad. That speaks volumes. Thank you for this.

from what i remember of reading this story in HS, it wasnt meant to be uplifting - Walter Mitty felt more like a human tragedy in the modern era, thats why i balked at the movie's transforming Walter Mitty into some uplifting story that felt more like it was packaged for the masses
