Hi everyone! Thanks for watching. We created this video as an introduction to the concept of lockout tagout. Often it's a difficult one to grasp the first time it's explained and having a visual aid like this can really help learners catch on.

Let me know what you think! What would you like to see next?

#1 - Identify the hazardous energy sources during meeting
#2 - De-energize the sources (turn off)
#3 - Apply locks/tags to prevent any unintentional powering on during repair, place keys in lockout keybox
#4 - Test out (try out) (make sure they are off)
#5 - Conduct repairs
#6 - Get everyone and all equipment out
#7 - Remove locks and tags
#8 - Re-energize the machinery

Thanks for a very good video covering all the hazards in a very short and comprehensive video. The last step TRY OUT is very important that you have highlighted as we have faced issues in oil and gas industry for not trying out "TESTING' whether the correct equipment is isolated or not. Thanks for your contribution to making industrial workplaces safe.

This seems very similar to what we do in the Navy. We use red danger tags on breakers and valves.

This is a basic, down to the point summary of LOTO procedures. As an electrician who's worked in various facilities and environments for almost a decade, LOTO plays a major aspect of my daily work, and indeed many serious injuries and fatalities across a variety of industries could have been prevented by following proper LOTO procedures. Since there are many types of machinery and equipment with multiple energy sources, it is imperative that facility records are updated whenever modifications to equipment are made in a way that necessitate a change in procedures, but in the end, the principle of LOTO remains largely unchanged.

Great video! I have a strange question: what is the title of the music playing in the background?

That's a cute little steam turban they got there! Probably cranks out 5 mw of power, hehe 🙂. All jokes aside, loto is safety first! Always, having worked in sawmills before, having to climb into a saw to clear a jam, loto is the first thing we do, save your limbs 🤘

May I use this video to compliment out company LOTO training? Exclusive to our employees, no outside training or sales of our training materials.
Thanks

Hi Rachel, I thought you did a great job explaining a lockout tagout and protocols to take during that event.

As always, you make the most informative presentations and try you best to address serious topics that may be ignored.

What I would like to see next is a uniform tutorial for workers or women office shoes from flats or loafers if available.

I ve heard that an emergency stop buttonnis not an energy isolating device so should not be used for lock out tag out. But engaging the emergency button stops electricity supply to the machine. So why cant it be used for lock out tag out? Can someone help?

You may not always want to de-energise. It will depend on the task. Also consider when isolation upstream and downstream is required for what you are working on. See BS 14100
