Gosh I felt for her children. I’m creeped out by Lane. So much for the sake of having a man. The second her children receive an ounce of stability, the mother rips it away from them. So sad

Those poor kids. The kids and moms really suffered from a lack of medical advances that are available today.

We saw that coming. The mother put being with a man above her children's well being. I wonder how the mother is going to act when she finds out what Lane is up to. Sadly, we see too many times when these women take the man's side over their daughters. I think it had more to do with the mother just wanting to be back with that man, and that religion was just an excuse. Anyway, great storytelling by the author, and I appreciate your commentary as it is also how I'm thinking. It's good to share.

I have all the empathy in the world for her, but this chapter frustrated me. You’re right, it’s the cult programing- but this is selfishness disguised as faith. Sure, WE’RE all the godless heathens. Her parents…the teams of doctors trying to help the children…the teachers who went out of their way to get the kids caught up in school. But Laine? He’s the wise, “godly, ” man who we need to get closer too for our own salvation. The guy who beat the brakes off of her.
I’ve heard a million of these stories, and it never gets less frustrating. (Thank god for your narration, reading this solo would be a challenge.)

Her mom doesn't seem to think of her kids when it comes to Lane.

But she was out rulled and he had 30 plus wives in the name of becoming a god in the after life.

Also about the forced eating on Audrey, maybe Irene was ashamed and embarrassed for doing what she did.
At least they are getting medical support vs living on Mexico on that compound.
