Roof Dormer Costs - Building Design Money Saving Tips

Yes!  Dormers can be fabulous!  I am in the process of installing #'s 5 & 6 of a total of 7.  The cost of $3 - 4 grand - low end.  But I've built them all myself so cost is minimal.  But you really do need to know what you are doing.  THE most important aspects are the flashings where the dormer's walls meet the existing roof. Skylights are nice (I have installed 13 of them on my property) especially for light in outbuildings. But for a space being created in the 2nd story or attic area of a house nothing beats a dormer.  You get not only light but ventilation and a view.  It's like living in a tree house!!  But remember that to add the additional weight of a dormer the structure must be beefed up.  Oh and by the way I am a 67 year-old grandmother.

YES YES YES...I need them to have more light. I want to know how I can build them on my own to save money.
It is not the point to "NOT do it", otherwise I could move into a cardboard box or back into the cave!
