I've been scratch building all the Scammell Pioneers in a larger scale for a couple of years and managed to get all the drawings that were available from the REME Museum in the UK. While I was looking through their archive there were a couple of photos and/or drawings of the Scammell Explorer which came into service after the Pioneer, for some reason they were filed incorrectly in the folders for the Pioneer. They showed the windscreen which is tapered out on the Explorer but straight on the Pioneer so the Thunder Models kit is the more accurate representation. Also the Thunder Models details inside the cab are also much more like the photos and illustrations in the service and parts manuals. There is a book by Capricorn Publications called "Army Wheels In Detail, Scammell Pioneer" (photo manual AW18) which reproduces many of the drawings and illustrations shown in the manuals backed up with photographs from WW2 and from vehicles still in existence in private and public collections. Well, worth buying if you want to build an accurate model. The REME Museum has an SV2S in their collection but it was in service for a long time after the war so has a lot of modifications which are not typical of WW2 vehicles.

Hey Seb, I now have all three Thunder Models kits and am building them all together. The R100 and SV/2S are featured on Armorama as "Scammell double build" whilst the TRMu30/TRCU30 are a separate build. they will come together near the end for a three kit mega finish!!

I have noticed that IBG have got the rake of the windscreen not angled enough, They are a cool manufacturer, and do some really great stuff. I find Thunder have gone the extra mile though!

Very nice to see the comparision video 🖒. I also have both kits and of course compared them. Besides the demension differences between the two models you mentioned, I noticed the following; the expansion tank on the IBG models radiator is also to small. There's one part in favor of the IBG model, and that's the big gear wheel of the winch. Teeth are well rendered while the ones of the Thunder model are very flat molded. I know that you can barely see the winch ones installed, so it's not much of a problem.
I also find the wood grain on the Thunder models a litlle overdone. Thunder models has also the possibility to pose the front wheels. All together makes the Thunder model my favorite.

Hi Seb, good to see you're still around. The thunder models kit is better detailed and more accurate but the IBG is easier to build. thats my opinion before you even open the boxes... As for the tyres.. The trucks could have smooth tread or mud tread on the front. unfortunately the mud tread tyres in both kits are inaccurate. In my opinion the Thunder models cab floor and tunnel is more correct, even though the wood tread is a little overdone. I dont know what IBG were thinking when they designed the windscreen frame? I guess they looked at the cad model and saw the roof was too narrow so they tapered the windscreen out? This was pointed out when they released the Breakdown Tractor and just left it?? You would think they would have changed the tooling cos no ones gonna buy a kit that looks wrong?? This isn't rivet counting.. this is overall appearance.
The Thunder model roof is more accurate on this kit, now that is rivet counting!!
The winch is not visible, but the accuracy and moulding on the TM kit is simply astounding.
Generally, the TM kit is awesome in its moulding quality and accuracy, but the kit is probably not suited well to a beginner. The Tank Transporter is awesome and needs no AM whatsoever to make a beautiful model.. AND, the price is astounding.

a very interesting comparison seb, cool to see what they have done the same way and what is different.
but seriously, how dare you to review two truck kits, you are not even an engineer?! :D
