That is why japa for grahas like Rahu, Ketu, Saturn differ in count. It depends on the distance. Count for Japa for Saturn shanti is much higher because it is very far.
108 japa is done for the 27 constellation ( into four time)

The "life can only sustain at 108" claim is pretty bogus. I think it's important to not force science into religion just to satisfy our ego. It wouldve been better if he just said that these ratios are curiously close to (not exactly) 108, not that it has any causal connection.
