Here is what I do (I have no self control when it comes to spending money and it even works for me). At the beginning of each year I set aside a milk carton. I use a milk carton so I can’t break into it or get the money out through the hole. In the carton I put birthday money, Christmas money, Easter money, extra cash, etc and save up for a year. At the end of the year I break open the carton and go shopping with all the boxing week sales :) so yeah! That’s how I do it.

My opinion about tip number 7 is that if you will be saving money for a long time (say for example a year or 6 months), it would be better to put it in a non-transparent container with a narrow/small opening so you wouldn't be tempted to get some cash from the container. (sorry about my English)

Some tips I recommend doing( that I do)
1. Every time you are paid in cash go to the bank (or if your to young; to your parents) and cash out for bigger bills. This always causes me to not use the bigger bills as much because I feel guilty spending too much money, so it's easier to keep my money because I don't have many bills that are under a 50 or 20 because I'm always cashing them out.
2. If your saving up for something expensive, every time you are paid put an amount of money off to the side ( doesn't matter how much) and have two or more separate money "piles", one that can be used for every day life and the other for the item you are saving up for, etc. The piles will allow you to spend the money you have saved up for that item when you have enough and you'll still have money left over and you won't be broke!
3. make sure you really want something before you buy it, unless it is a necessity. You don't need everything you want and in reality you might not even use it for that long before you don't like it anymore.

If you know how to play the piano you can give piano lessons to kids and get payed
