I say let Lyft and Uber drivers vote and we stay out of it

Why don’t they offer benefits to those who work full time? Those who don’t work full time, won’t receive benefits.

So considering the sheer amount of uber/lyft drivers there are, do they really think this company is gonna hire all of them full time with benefits? Plus, what about all the people who use this as a side gig? Students who use it to make some money on the weekends? Or the guy who gets off his 9-5? Do they become full time employees now while working no hours at all? Might as well become a taxi driver.

I use Uber as a side job. I work full time and Uber helps me get extra money for my bills. If drivers want benefits then why don't they become taxi drivers.

So it's either I stop working or I get paid less for my work. Real nice.

A large majority of gig workers will be unable to make any money at all if these companies are forced to adopt the employee model. They're not going to employ EVERYBODY currently working on these platforms.

Both sides made compelling arguments for me. All i did was ask all the drivers what they wanted and the majority say please vote yes.

Let’s keep it simple. California wants more tax money...okay. That’s it.

I am a truck driver pay me by the hour instead of the mile

how about we sort out healthcare security for people outside of their employer, then people can work whatever job(s) they want.

wait correct me if i’m wrong please... So uber/ lyft and other delivery services are meant to be gigs (side hustles).. but people are trying to turn it into an actual job and strip away the independence aspect of it just for benefits? mannnn if you don’t go work at UPS or something that gives benefits and leave the gig economy alone😂

I'm a trucker/ independent contractor, and I get to work for multiple companies. Now companies are less likely to hire contractors because of this law. Uber drivers cry to much they knew what it was when they signed up.

The only reason we're talking about this is that uber/lyft started paying less and less and then give you "points" that are useless. AB5 doesn't actually say you have to work a minimum and does nothing to flexibility.

If Proposition 22 passes, it would prevent local governments from passing laws that require companies to provide additional benefits and protections for gig workers not included in Prop. 22. Vote No!

From reading the responses I can already tell a lot of people have confused what a NO vote and what a YES vote means with each other. Maybe it was the way this prop was worded

Ummm this was governor Newsom... what did trump actually have to do with this. Title is a lil misleading there

Man oh man this was helpful. Clear and to the point. Thank you.

No on prop 22. Even temp jobs do not rob you as badly as rideshares do.

Maybe if CA actually enforced its own medallion rules in the first place, we would not need such laws like AB5 and prop 22.

I am a driver. I am self employed. I have all of the benefits of any other “self-employed” American. I use these apps to help me stay self employed. If I wanted to be a Cab Driver, or seek employment as a driver elsewhere (limo, truck, bus, etc.)., I am free to do that. I, and most other rideshare drivers, do not want to forced into employment. Right now I can work 60 hours a week, or 10 hours, if I choose. Employers (all) avoid paying overtime at all costs. The prefer part time employees because part time employees typically do not get benefits, . VOTE YES on Prop 22
