Better to just tape over the leaks, then mastic over that. The HVAC caulking is really expensive and not needed for the leaks you have.

My home inspector told me that holes in the ductwork in the basement are a good thing because it will allow the basement to get heat in the winter! 😂

When sealing leaky ducts. Should I first put down tape then go over the tape with mastic? Or is it best to use a thin amount of mastic then tape and go over it again with mastic. I really want to make sure everything is sealed. And can I do this in the winter while the heat is on?

Previous home owners sealed up wveything including the filter access. What's the best way to remove mastic to access the filter?
