Karl Marx? He was Right.

The British media recently castigated John McDonnell for admitting he had read Karl Marx. But there’s just one problem with that - he’s never been more relevant.

Keep in mind the difference between “growth” and “increase in growth”. If there is a slowdown in “increase in growth” there is still “growth”.

Marx is probably the most important and brilliant political economist ever -- but the vast majority of people only think they know what marxism even is or means -- people are too scared, stupid, or ideologically warped to even think they need to think about marxism.. I remember before I was a marxist I thought I knew everything I needed to know about it --- its only when you actually study it for yourself and ask questions that you realize you didnt even know what you didnt know... we're all brainwashed by cultural capitalism and cultural hedgemony until we actually have the courage to question our assumptions

As the dead labor becomes dominant the LAW OF THE DECLINE IN RATE OF PROFIT manifests itself, only a destruction of the capitalist MODE OF PRODUCTION will ensure the continuation of HUMANITY.

One of the greatest political writers ever. Capitalism is a horrible system which doesn't work very well.

Enjoyed this video Aaron, you should do a longer one exploring more of Marx's observations (e.g. centralisation of capital, tendency of rate of profit to fall, crises of accumulation) and how they apply to contemporary capitalism. Plus a big question that arises from this overview is how was capitalism able to affect such impressive growth in the post-war pre-neoliberal years if wage stagnation is a tendency within capitalism? Is the situation really that critical now or could capitalism simply save itself once again through a return to welfare states, full employment, high consumption etc.?

Even if that were true, Marx predicted wages would get lower and lower.

The issue with Marx was not his analysis of capitalism, but he's answer to it.

The current system will not compromise the standards of living of the elite as suggested here which is why it is what it is. The fact is that the wealth of the very wealthiest will continue to grow exponentially whilst the rest of us get poorer. Furthermore, this vast wealth combined with technology will keep them safe from the inevitable anger which will instead be directed at the most vulnerable in society. All hope is not lost, a Corbyn lead Labour victory could change things but it is our only hope.

I don't think you understand a coat until you've read Marx. Edit; And anyway - I know we all make mistakes - but, Andrew Marr did give himself a stroke basically from pushing himself too hard... I'm sure they'd like to see John McDonnell go the same way.

lol this is the only thing you can say right about him: that he caused what he predicted. What a video for kids

Explain the min wage goes up businesses have to lower staff numbers so the consumer does not have to pay more which raises unemployment. Option two keep staff on pay them more and have no one buying products because the prices will be two sounds amazing 🤔

Wage growth declining doesn’t reflect the failing of a system. It reflects the failing of a single economy within a system. And even if wage growth globally stagnates, if world prices don’t grow either, then purchasing power isn’t changing and it’s not the doom and gloom scenario being described.
