Une direction inspirée et très calme, mais avec la fougue qu'il faut quand la musique de Brahms le requiert .

This recording is exceptionally good. Mäkelä is such a bright conductor, really at the service of the music, , the Oslo Philharmonic has really a nice sound, passionate but precise for all the instruments. The sound is so well layered, but at the same time the parts are so clear, and that is also thanks to the acoustics of this place and the careful and intelligent microphone recording.

The last movement is on my top 5 list of favorite pieces of music. Brahms was such a genius. The beauty in his music is unsurpassed.

Klaus conducts the Symphony in a confident way. I look forward to his mature performance a decade later.

I love watching these musicians feel the music they play with their movements, and I am smitten with Klaus' energy every time he leads. Every time.

The Muses granted Johannes Brahms the opportunity to leave Heaven, take a day off, and visit Oslo. This is what happened, as documented in this video. Brahms and the Muses are most pleased, keeping open Heaven's doors so that all in heaven can listen in to this divine performance.

Agony, immortality, sorrow, human philosophy, yearning for GOD, those are the expected in Brahm's 4. More abundant harmony and communications between instruments based on more open and dispersed harmonies. Years later, I do expect Makela will be shoulder to shoulder with GREAT MAESTROES.

What a combination - Brahms and the Oslo Philharmonic led by the fantastic Klaus Makela! A dream!

After years of listening to this symphony, perhaps the greatest of the second half of the nineteenth century, I had never admired such a perfect interpretation! This very young and distinguished conductor possesses enormous talent. An exemplary style and mimic participation. The first movement of this masterpiece by "my Brahms" was performed with rigorous respect for its beauty and richness of abstraction, which where optimized down ti the most arduous nuances and need for pauses by Makela. (R. Di Palma Italian writer and musical critic).

An essential part of the history of symphonies during the Romantic era.
This song is evaluated as a masterpiece among masterpieces.
Brahms said, “It is the most personal utterance of my soul.”

During a chaotic and uncertain period in the composer's life (1884 - 1885)
Composed by critics, the symphony described Brahms' internal struggle and conflict.
I interpreted it as a musical expression.
Best regards.

The conductor and orchestra sound fantastic - and certainly are - but my hats off to the sound engineers. I think we all tend to forget them, but they really can "make or break". Here the sound recording is fantastic. (The conductor and orchestra are brilliant, but could so easily have been "broken" by a second rate recording team.) So often the sound crew is ignored, but here they clearly deserve being singled out ... Bravo!
