Welcome aboard! Strap in—it's time to go! In this video, I’m in the cockpit of an EA-18G Growler aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), somewhere in the Pacific Ocean near Guam in 2017. We're getting ready for a MAX power Case I launch off catapult 3, during a day training sortie.

When you’re on an aircraft carrier, the ship always points into the wind for flight operations. That means the ship’s often heading straight into whatever weather is coming at us. On this day, the weather decided to throw us a curveball.

At the 6:00 mark, the rain starts coming down, and the winds pick up.

By 7:00, things get real—the rain is so strong that I can barely see beyond the bow.

But the deck crew? They don't miss a beat. Despite the getting soaked, they keep prepping the catapults for launch. In the Fleet, flight OPS don't stop, no matter what the weather’s doing.

Luckily, this was just an isolated squall and we passed through it quickly, but it’s a reminder of what life on a carrier can be like. Just another day at sea.

Fly Navy!

Hey guys! I just remastered the audio in this jam to make my voice louder and dampen the jet noise. I'm not sure what happened on the first take, but II think it sounds a lot better now. What do you think? Cheers!

Thanks for all the support. I never thought this channel would take off so quickly. I recently updated the description for the video to account for a lot of the questions. If you like the videos, please "like", comment, and subscribe. Cheers!

Always impressed by the deck crew and how they work together with the ship and pilot to make a safe launch and landing. Those guys are busy.

As a civilian, one of the highlights of my life was having the privilege of standing on the deck of the USS Enterprise on its last sailing and watching aircraft catapulting off the deck in day and at night. The wordless synchrony on the deck is amazing. Night time take offs and landings are even more impressive! Only flashing lights and afterburners can be seen. The Admiral at that time told me we were the only country that could launch and recover aircraft at night, The young men and women who defend our freedom are the best and we salute their dedication and service. Hats off to the skilled naval aviators.

Love the way you talk us through this! I retired from the Navy after 26 years. I spent 4 years on board USS Forrestal CV59. That was her classification when I went in 1979…loved carrier duty! I retired as a chief boatswains mate. Thank you for your service!

My father was a CB Chief stationed at Kingsville ( In charge of the Hobby Shop). I saw the Blue Angles perform there in I am guessing 1959. I was a MM on the USS Sample DE 1048 and we operated on Yankee Station with the Oriskany plane guarding, upon his passing I was transferred by helo to the Oriskany then catapulted off on a COG to Da Nang, remember that like it was yesterday and I was told it was half power, C130 to Clark AFB, MAC flight to West coast, a AF Generals DC 3 to San Antonio, commercial to New Orleans. The Navy got me home. Great video and brought back a lot of memories of Kingsville and Yankee Station. Thank you for being out there doing what you do, it is amazing.

My Dad was a WWII Navy carrier pilot and involved in the invasion of Southern France. It started shortly after D-day as no aircraft carriers were directly involved in Operation Overlord. He passed a couple of years ago, so I enjoy these carrier pilot videos. Thanks for the channel.

I love these videos. I used to enjoy my father's stories from when he worked on the wooden flight deck of the USS Wasp in the mid 50s. One night the entire flight deck caught fire when a Grumman AF (anti-sub plane) made a hard landing and ruptured its fuel tanks. I believe they sailed to Japan, where the deck got re-planked with teak.
