I can't explain why this makes me feel emotional but it does and I'm rapidly becoming obsessed with it. It's like someone went back several centuries and brought it forward.

"My father says I have English hair / Brown like the bark of an oak somewhere / Like the bed of a lake where the hemlock grows / Like the thorn in the stem of an English rose" THIS is traditional lyric poetry in the grand manner!

This is simply beautiful. This will catch on. People will sing this song for years to come. They will dance to it, they will hold their babies in their arms and sing it as a lullaby and I can even hear it in movies in time. What an amazing thing you have done.

I want to know what your brother says about your strength. What your partner says about your heart. What your future children say about your love.

My mother says
I have Irish eyes
Irish eyes, Irish eyes
My mother says
I have Irish eyes
They go ever so blue
under stormy skies
but they never so blue
as when I let them cry
My father says
I have english hair
English hair, english hair
Brown like the bark
of an oak somewhere
like the bed of a lake
where the hemlock grows
like the thorn in the stem
of an english rose
I'm a map of the world
and the ones before
One foot in sea
and one on shore
Every step
every hope flung high
I'm a map of the world
whit my Irish eyes
My nana says
I have travelling feet
Travelling feet, travelling feet
Slippers for princesses
don't fit me
but I dance to my own drum
bright and bold
and my travelling feet
always get me home
My sister says
I've a restless soul
Restless soul, restless soul
easy to catch
but I'm hard to hold
like a song on the wind
that you caught one day
I get under your skin
then I slip away
I'm a map of the world
and the ones before
One foot in sea
and one on shore
Every step
every hope flung high
I'm a map of the world
whit my Irish eyes

Well my father says I have a heart of gold. Heart of gold. Heart of gold. You'll find me there will the flowers grow. Under a willows leaves and a stream that flows. Watching my wild friends as they come and go. ❤

My 5 year old son refuses to go to bed without me singing this to him. Thank you for adding such a beautiful song to our routine. ❤

Every time I hear this song I think of my grandmother. She immigrated to our country in the 60s and settled in a growing suburb... in the oldest church yard, there are relatives of hers from the 1600s burried. We light a candle on their grave every year at christmas. Her relatives passed through most of europe moving around over 400 years, only to get back to the same place their relatives once started out ❤

Hi Rose, thank you for this lovely song. <3 I find it really affirming and decided to write a version for myself and my own heritage. Here are a couple of the verses from my version, which were so fun to write:

Matt used to say I have Jewish hair,
Jewish hair, Jewish hair.
Dark like a dry desert night somewhere,
and it curls like a dance 'round a blazing fire,
and it springs from my head, growing higher and higher.

Rosa says I've a wild heart,
wild heart, wild heart.
My Rosa says I've a wild heart,
and it can't be crushed, and it won't be tamed.
Yes it's wild as the tree for which I'm named.

Thank you for this gift, Rose!

I needed this at 3am, in the middle of nowhere, with a dog and a cat, sitting in a truck and waiting on a storm. Lovely.

Celtic music has always spoken to my heart even before learning my Irish heritage. This was gorgeous, and my only wish is that it was longer.

Beautiful! I've got Irish hazel eyes that glow green when I cry and Scottish red that goes bright under summer skies.

When I first started listening, I couldn't wipe the smile off. But the other day I sang with her, and was wiping tears. Touched my heart ❤

Been singing and listening to this for weeks now.

I'm a Brit with deep Irish ancestry and am a sucker for a bodhrán, this song and your voice carry it so much further.

Blessings x

Absolutely stunning. I'm as '"non Irish" as one can be, yet the words and melody melt my heart and fill my eyes with tears of emotion. Sending love from New Zealand. I hope your talent brings you everything you've ever wanted.
