Pallas's cats are flirting during breeding season

The love story of Zelenogorsk and the beautiful Adele, two Pallas's cats living in Novosibirsk zoo.

The breeding season for Pallas's cats in Siberia occurs in February and March. This is the time when you can observe adult Pallas's cats purring and rubbing against each other instead of fighting. :)

In the wild, males roam vast steppes and mountain plateaus all day, searching for females. Pallas's cats are polygynous, meaning a male mates with several females during a single mating season.

In zoos, keepers connect enclosures to allow males to visit females. At the Novosibirsk Zoo, keepers account for the polygynous nature of Pallas's cats by connecting one male with several females. During the breeding season, males even protect their females from keepers bringing food.
