A historic deal has been struck at the UN's COP27 summit in Egypt - in future rich nations will pay poorer countries for the damage and economic losses caused by climate change.

It ends almost 30 years of waiting by nations facing huge climate impacts.

But developed nations were dissatisfied over progress on cutting fossil fuels. The final deal did not include commitments to "phase down" or reduce their use.

Reeta Chakrabarti presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Justin Rowlatt and Matt McGrath.

And they all flew back home how stunning and brave

So in the end it turned into a summit about paying for climate change? Also do they really think these 'damage funds' won't be misappropriated by authorities in the hardest climate crisis hit countries? I have a feeling that majority of the most impacted people won't even see a cent of that money.
The outcome of this summit is simply not enough. For all the fossil fuels burned to make this summit possible, the return is paltry.

If we all pay our controllers more taxes, the environment will magically heal. Probably. Believe your handlers. Big Brother loves you

Just the same yet again.. all of those private jets and all of those "unsustainable" meals and they have delivered nothing at all
( except for a cash swindle.. the usual cash swindle )

When they all stop flying and do everything by zoom then they might have some credibility.

Isn’t this like offering to clean up the spillage without fixing the leak?

Hopefully the few British people left with a modicum of common sense and critical thinking skills will wake up before 2024 and consign it’s signatories to the wastebasket of history 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇬🇧

It would be interesting to specifically verify that "bureaucrats" receive such "ethereal" help, how and in what the millionaire sums are invested and who supervises that the money does not disappear into the pockets of the corrupt.

I suggest that the countries claiming to be detrimentally impacted by fossil fuels stop using fossil fuels.

How will they decide which natural disasters are caused by climate change and which aren’t?

Those that profited the most from fossil fuels should pay, not ordinary tax payers.

"we can't do anything about it, here's money to help you deal with the devastation..."
WHAT?!?!?!?

Can't they do the cop summits on zoom? Instead of paying millions on planes, private jets, free hotels and complimentary food and drink. It would help the environment and save so much time and money.

Thanks China for continued
- building more and more *coal-fired power plants, * and
- burning more and more *fossil fuel.*

Do you know that the financial district of London does 1.5 trillion transactions a day, if we charged them £1 for every deal we would have enough money to sort out the NHS, the Railways, the Homeless, the debt and everything to have proper schools and social programs for kids to get of the streets, to solve the problem of the care programs we could build world class hospitals, care workers could be paid a proper wage for the demanding work they do, teachers could be paid a just wage, we could all be much better off with lower taxes, just £1 is that really a hard thing to do?
